Venezuela is home to one of the smoothest, quality driven sipping rums. Rum Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva holds the “Ron de Venezuela” DOC (Protected Denomination of Origin) and is recognized as one of the finest rums in the world!
Tito Cordero, the award-winning master blender of Venezuela’s Diplomático Rum, prides himself on creating unique and complex rums, and was awarded “Rum Blender of the Year” twice at the London Rum Barrel Awards in 2011 and 2013. It’s produced at the Diplomático distillery and made from sugar cane, molasses and honeys (with a high concentration of sugar). The sugar mix is then fermented with the distillery’s own yeast strain. This adds smoothness and a lot of sweet caramel notes to the taste. The fermentation is then distilled through a unique 
process and aged in different types of casks, predominantly former bourbon and malt whisky barrels, and sherry casks.
The Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva ($40) is aged for up to 12 years in small oak casks. This results in a powerful nose with notes of maple syrup, orange peel, brown sugar and anise. On the palate this rum is smooth and full bodied with sweet toffee fudge and caramel flavors.
