Route 66 Smokehouse!

With so many restaurants in NYC it’s hard to figure out where to go. Something new and unique is always fun, so head on over to Route 66 Smokehouse! This new BBQ spot has 70+ Whiskey’s, cocktails that will excite and allure, and a menu that will have drooling just from reading it.

IMG_2756 The Smokehouse 66 BBQ Margarita was the first cocktail I tried. This cocktail was spicy, tangy, and super fun with the house made Pretzels and warm Pimento Cheese, Fried Green Tomatoes, and Truffle Brussels Sprouts. The spice in the cocktail cut straight through the fried tomato, and with the hint of jalapeno, the two melded together and became a harmonious, mouth-filling, flavor sensation.

Next out was entrée’s and sides. The BBQ Sampler is a large plate piled high with Smoked Brisket, Pulled Pork, Chicken, and of course Ribs. Now, what I loved about this restaurant, and you will too, is that they give you two different BBQ sauces to choose from and they don’t smother your food with it! In fact, the meat comes out juicy and smoked, and you add your sauce; it’s delightful! Pair this with their Cinnamon flavored cocktail, and you are in for a real treat! Another entrée, which is worth saving some room, is the Shrimp Grits, which are out of this world, yum. The grits are creamy, the shrimp is juicy, and small chunks of sausage come with every bite.

Make sure you pack on some sides to this meal too, as you will need to order the creamy Mac & Cheese and the Bourbon Sweeties; they’re to die for!

If you’re still reading this article, you have a lot of self-discipline and haven’t already headed out to Route 66 Smokehouse, so listen up for their delicious dessert. The Chocolate Pudding is the best I have ever had, and remember this is coming from a former pastry chef of 6 years. The Bread Pudding and Chocolate Chip Cookie are both baked in small cast iron skillets and are creamy, rich, and sensually sweet; these desserts would be perfect with a smoky, darker whiskey, with some oak and sweet baking spice flavors.

Ok, my mouth is watering writing this, so be sure to head there soon, I know I’m going back soon for some whiskey flights and more of the best BBQ in NYC!
