Meditation on SommInTheCity? Yes, you’re reading this right and this spiritual section is new and exciting. I decided there was a time and place to share my stories with you, because as I grow, so does the site.
When I first started the site in May 2013, it was a fun journey with ups and downs, weight gain, new sleeping patterns, stress, and so much more. I wouldn’t take any of it back, as it has led me to discover myself, who I truly am, and who I want to become. I love being a Sommelier, Personal Chef, and Pairing Personality, but it does take a toll on your body. The constant late nights, alcohol, appearances, and food filled events are unforgettable. This pattern left to run wild can cause stress on the body and turn a once healthy and happy person into a depressed unhealthy version of yourself. This is where I found mood swings running my life, sluggishness making me feel tired all the time, and that “downward spiral” feeling manifesting itself in every aspect of my life. It felt like I was suffocating and there was no way out… or so at least thats the way I saw it for a while.
This was truly happening to me, I was gaining weight, letting myself slip, snapping at anything I disliked, and not my bubbly (no wine pun intended…) self. This was a time where I knew in my heart a change needed to happen, and it needed to happen now.
One night it was all clear to me and I went searching for something bigger than myself. I told myself and set the intention that I will not let my dreams, career, and SommInTheCity slip because I can’t take care of myself. I decided to change.
First stop: Meditation. At first I was hesitant, because I think too much and didn’t see how I could bring anything new and exciting into my life by sitting and doing nothing. It has been months now, and I meditate daily, whether its 10 minutes, 15 minutes, or 30 minutes, I make sure to get it into my day. My life has changed. Little by little things manifest themselves into my life. Whether its the right people, a new opportunity, a new friend, or an invite somewhere, something wonderful happens everyday. Ar first it was weird to accept these little “happy happenings”, as they just seemed like luck or a coincidence, but soon I realized that I was creating my own reality.
It suddenly all made sense, and I released so many fears, doubts, and beliefs from myself that were holding me back, keeping me stuck, and drowning me. I then started to study my Chakras, clearing them and healing them, which in turn helped my meditations. I now can snap into a meditation and creative visualization state within seconds, and its the most rewarding feeling. I have manifested things I never thought were possible, and its only the beginning.
I have “released” (as Christie Marie Sheldon would say) 40 pounds since my now 6 month journey, and intend to continue on this healthier journey. Of course we all have our days where we feel out of whack and out of sorts, but instead of letting it drag me down, I meditate to find the answers and they reveal themselves in ways you wouldn’t imagine. You can also creatively visualize and manifest the body you want… and you will see it become your reality.
Why am I telling you this? Well, because without changing my wine tastings, restaurant and food reviews, without dieting, or drastically changing my lifestyle, I lost the weight, changed my relationship with the people around me, let go of toxic people in my life, and have opened my world up to more possibilities that six months ago seemed unreachable.
