Endangered Species Chocolate makes a line of bars and spreads that are certified fair-trade, non-GMO, gluten free, and vegan ESC ‘s mission is to provide a sweet treat this is not only healthy but also making a difference in local communities and around the world. Some flavors you may have seen in my past gift guides include some of my favorites such as the Salted Caramel, Mint, and Toffee, however three new flavors are added to the mix and they are perfect for summer!
Coconut Crème Filled Dark Chocolate Bar, Lavender Mint Crème Filled Dark Chocolate, and Dark Chocolate with Lemon Poppy Seed.
Having provided more than 1.2 million dollars to support conservation organizations in the past three years, all ESC products purchased help support causes around the world. I recently spoke with a member of the Endangered Species Chocolate brand, who was able to give me some valuable insight into this “deliciously sweet” and impactful chocolate brand.
1. What impact has ESC had on the chocolate industry?
Endangered Species Chocolate was founded in 1993 in an effort to spread awareness and to make an impact on the growing number of plant and animal species that were disappearing from Earth. From the beginning, ESC supported worthwhile organizations that were committed to protecting endangered species. In addition, when consumers purchase our chocolate, they are purchasing the first American-made chocolate using fully traceable Fairtrade cocoa from West Africa. Choosing our chocolate, helps give farmers, their children and their communities an opportunity to make a real living and invest in a viable future.
2. I tried the chocolate… it’s AMAZING, are these flavors Coconut Creme Filled, Lavender, and Dark Chocolate lemon new? If so, does the company choose to go seasonal, as these seem a little summer focused, but something I would also love year round… if you could explain more? Will they be around all year long? As well as the Chocolate Salted Caramel, Mint, and Toffee (my three faves I tried so far).
We do offer seasonal chocolate bars during the holiday season only. All of our other products are offered year round.
3. I see the brand in Whole Foods, is it available anywhere else? Drop shipping, or online?
We are available nation wide at Kroger, Target, Earthfare, Sprouts, Fresh Thyme along with many small natural food stores.
4. Do you have a favorite flavor… or three? I know thats a hard one, thats like asking me as a sommelier what my favorite wine is… but was just curious if you had one you ALWAYS go to, and why… and or paired with what wine (if you drink)!?
Hmmm… VERY tough question. Currently my favorite is the Eagle Bar, Dark Chocolate with Caramel and Sea Salt. However most of us tend to go through different favorite phases, with new product launches annually there is always something new that tends to pull at your heart strings.
For those of you seeking something sweet to nosh on this summer and throughout the year, Endangered Species Chocolate is a great go-to and pairs great with red wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Tempranillo, as well as IPA’s, and Bourbon! Please pair responsibly.
