Cinco De Mayo at Hotel Tortuga

Cinco De Mayo is a day celebrated with traditional Mexican cuisine and lots and lots of drinks! Fancy Margaritas, Sangria, and many more inspired drinks are featured on menu’s and the restaurant specials are endless. In New York City holiday’s like these become a huge celebration for people of all backgrounds.

Cinco De Mayo has an interesting history however, that when we in America celebrate May 5th, we are celebrating Mexican heritage and pride. A great little spot in the East Village called Tortuga is where you can get great authentic Mexican cuisine and delectable cocktails with some vegan and vegetarian options! Here everyone can celebrate with a help yourself tortilla chip and salsa station, a large menu, and of course some of the best frozen sangria I have ever had! image (1)

The nachos with pulled pork are to die for! They slow cook the pork and lay it over a bed of multi-colored tortilla chips, layered with three cheeses, tomatoes, olives, black beans, and sour cream! The frozen sangria is berrylicious and has just the right amount of alcohol for a mid morning brunch. The restaurant is quite small but always crowded any time you walk by. The staff is very friendly and the food, well let’s just say I will be returning very soon to check out more menu items and Margarita that caught my eye!photo (1)
