IMG_1513Manhattan is home to many steakhouses but one in particular has the best Rack of Lamb, Bone Marrow and Truffle Mac & Cheese out there! Angus Club Steakhouse is absolutely outstanding and although has menu similarities like most high end steakhouses, they sure do some things a little differently when it comes to the décor, appetizer offerings and more.

As you enter you are greeted with a warm and welcoming staff; professional, personable and certainly not stuffy. The décor is soft yet attractive with dark wood, white linen clothed tables and an ambiance that allows you to relax into one of their comfortable dining chairs so you can await your delectable experience. What I enjoyed the most about the décor was that there weren’t too many distractions on the walls, it was simple and stylish! Some steakhouses today have walls of mirrors making the restaurant appear larger and more modern.

IMG_1532It’s certainly not that I don’t enjoy being able to see myself enjoy my meal, however after my years in restaurant management and sommelier service I always find myself looking into the mirrors, watching staff and customers which leads me to become distracted from the meal, my company, and the experience. Picturesque NYC paintings fill the warm cream colored walls making the upstairs dining room ideal for an intimate date, family dinner or business meeting.

You are not distracted during dinner, in fact it’s the complete opposite. The atmosphere and attentive (but not overbearing) service allows you to enjoy a VIP experience, but also every single bite of your meal.

IMG_1520The wine list is full of wines by the glass and bottle offering perfect pairings with both the meat and seafood options. I recommend starting off with some Shrimp Cocktail and a glass of Champagne as well as the Bone Marrow Appetizer and a glass of Merlot. Why? The Bone Marrow appetizer is one of the sexiest starters I have ever had! It arrives at the table at the perfect temperature accompanied by Parmesan Crostini (perfect for spreading the marrow on) as well as some greens. For those new to bone marrow I recommend trying this silky and “buttery” but oh so incredibly delicious appetizer with your crostini. I dove in both ways enjoying every single bite paired with a full bodied, aromatic plum and blackberry driven merlot… this pairing was perfect!

IMG_1533I decided next to enjoy the Filet as well as the Rack of Lamb. The filet came out perfectly cooked and medium rare with a delectable side steak sauce (not that it needed it, but both ways were fun). The rack of lamb was honestly the best I have ever had; and I eat a lot of lamb! Juicy and tender, perfectly cooked and just the right amount of fat to keep in all flavor and juiciness. Paired with an Argentinean Malbec this was an incredible second course. The meats were accompanied by garlic sautéed spinach that was out of this world, yum and of course the cheesiest and best Truffle Mac & Cheese ever!

IMG_1535The ambiance was so relaxing that around two hours there felt like the perfect amount of time. Even with a full dining room the staff remains attentive and friendly making you feel as if you are their only table; it’s quite the experience. This delectable evening was topped off with a Hot Fudge Sundae! This sweet ending is classic, delicious, and simply perfect; like the experience you will have at Angus Club Steakhouse (135 E 55th Street)!
