It’s finally December! This year flew by, almost too fast, but now that December is here why not embrace the season of giving, cheer, and bubbly. This time of year is the busiest time for wine shops and giving the gift of sparkling wine is just what your host/hostess wants. I love to collect sparkling wines and have a lot in my home because whenever I am in the mood for one I always have it. It’s why you can never go wrong giving the gift of bubbly, especially around the holidays when it’s consumed more than anything else.
Sparkling wine comes in many styles including Champagne, Crémant, Prosecco, Franciacorta, Cava, Sekt, and many more. This time of year is perfect for trying new styles of sparkling wines because there are so many fun and affordable options out there. I have compiled all of my top bubbly options to sip and gift this holiday season, so you don’t have to worry. Simply bring this list to your local wine shop or online retailer, and you’ll find these favorites of mine with no problem!
Bruno Paillard Premiere Cuvée- This wine is stunning with fine bubbles and a gold color. On the nose, you will get hints of lime and grapefruit followed by some red fruit aromas and exotic fruits. Overall this wine is beautiful and pairs nicely with cheeses as well as the holiday season! $50
Bruno Paillard Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru– Also known as the “lace of Champagnes”, this beautiful bubbly is made from Chardonnay grapes exclusively from Grand Cru vineyards. This wine is creamy but also lively, which is typically what you will find with grand cru wines. $70
Laurent Perrier La Cuvée Brut- After a long aging in the cellar, this wine is ready to be enjoyed! It’s pale gold in color with fine bubbles and a persistent mousse. It has a delicate nose with hints of fresh citrus and white flowers, with stone fruit flavors following. Laurent Perrier is the perfect balance between freshness and luxury with fruity flavors flowing through to the finish. $50
Moët & Chandon Nectar Imperial– This one is tropical, exciting, and alluring. This is one of the more exotic expressions from the house and is perfect for those who celebrate with spicy food and dark chocolate desserts. This wine is a true match with many different foods, but my top three-holiday pairing picks would have to be, Devils Food Cake, Shrimp Fra Diavolo, and Baked Clams! $50
Moët & Chandon Impérial Brut– This is the houses iconic Champagne made from more than 100 different wines. This diversity gives the wine complexity, finesse, and beauty. A nose full of citrus and bright minerality is just one of the many highlights of this wine. Moët & Chandon is a gift you can give to bring life to the holiday season! $40
Ferrari Brut Trento DOC- This wine is 100% Chardonnay and is clean and balanced. On the palate, it’s striking with fresh citrus fruit and delicate yeast aromas. It’s extremely elegant and makes the perfect aperitif wine to greet your guests with. $26
Valdo Cuvée 1926- This sparkling wine first originated in 1926, where the first bottle was uncorked in Valdobbiadene. This prosecco is a tribute to the history of the region as well as your palate, which will love this bright bubbly. A bit of bubble, with some cool history and great flavors, is always a perfect choice to bring or have at a gathering. Valdo 1926 Prestige Cuvee is just what your holidays ordered! $15
Altemasi Trento DOC- This wine is made in the classic style, and is 100% Chardonnay from Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy. It has a fruity nose, full of yeast and citrus, with a nice crispness. It’s a well-balanced wine with good length and will easily pair with pasta and seafood! $32
Cote Mas Brut Crémant de Limoux- This wine is beautiful and also a bargain! These bubbles should be at your table all winter long because this fun bubbly is fresh and vibrant expressing notes of citrus, white flowers, and honey. On the palate, it’s playful and pairs well with both appetizers and desserts. Be sure to pick up a case of this for all your holiday celebrations! $15
Meiomi Sparkling Wine- From the north coast in California, is a wine I have been wanting for a while! I love Meiomi Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Rosé, so when they released a sparkling wine, I was right on board! The nose is full of green apple, pears, zest, and minerality. It’s made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and has an attractive yeastiness in the finish. $27
2016 Sterling Vineyards Sparkling Rosé-This wine is elegant and salmon pink in color with fresh strawberry and cherry aromas. Monterey, California is a cooler region influenced by the Pacific Ocean and because of this, Pinot Noir grapes thrive here, giving great acidity levels to this wine. Sterling Vineyards sparkling wines are perfect to give as a gift as well as break out in celebration! The bottles are festive and fun, while the bubbles are elegant and delicious! $35
2016 Lucas & Lewellen Brut Sparkling Wine– This fabulous bubbly is made from 55% estate Pinot Noir and 45% estate Chardonnay, picked on the same day and co-fermented for an uncommon winemaking style. It ages on the lees (yeast) and is disgorged at 18 months and released after two years. This wine is elegant with flavors of ripe stone fruits and brioche with refreshing bubbles. It’s fresh and bright with a clear expression of terroir from Lucas & Lewellen’s Los Alamos Vineyard. $36
2016 Toccata Sparkling Rosato – Toccata’s pink Rosato is a fruity, lively, brut Champagne-style bubbly. Because it’s from California, we can’t classify it as Champagne, but it has many similarities due to the production of the wine. From the Los Alamos Vineyard, crisp estate Pinot Grigio has blended with 2% Dolcetto for color and 3% Malvasia Bianca, for perfume and flavor. This combination creates bubbles that are fun and full of excitement, flavor, and elegance. $35
Happy Holidays! Please pair responsibly!
