IMG_0243TODAY is National Rum Day! This day could not have come on a more perfect day of the week because now we can all really celebrate with cocktails, sipping rums, rum cakes, etc.

IMG_0240       Thanks to the Collective PR and the Angostura team, I was able to participate in a rum tasting with the Global Ambassador, David Delaney Jr. and try some beautiful rums from their collection, while also enjoying some Angostura infused ice cream and sorbet!

The beauty of Angostura is that you probably know them for their bitters, but they make fantastic, award winning rums.

I was walked through a tasting of a 5year, 7year, a 1919 and an 1824. The 5 and 7 year are beautiful and perfect for blending into cocktails, which David taught me how to make!

The 1919 is pleasant and beautiful, full of rich vanilla and some sweet baking spice. This is quite the sipping rum and one of my favorites at the tasting! Lastly we had the 1824, another amazing sipping rum, similar to bourbon in weight, and is great straight up or on the rocks for anyone who likes whiskey, bourbon, and scotch. IMG_0245

David made me a cocktail called the 7 Dial Fizz using the 7 year Rum, Angostura bitters, Calvados, fresh lime juice, club soda, and garnished it with apples. This cocktail is delicious, refreshing, and one of the better rum cocktails I have had. To go with my perfectly fizzy cocktail, I was served Angostura infused ice cream and sorbet by Tipsy Scoop! With 5% alcohol, the mocha was creamy and perfect while the raspberry sorbet was cool and refreshing with nice chunks of real raspberry; it was absolutely delightful!

For those of you partaking in this fun Foodie Day and like sipping rums, you should try something from Angostura. The 5 and 7 year smoothly blend into cocktails, but the 1919 and 1824 will be my go-to rums for today! What ever way you try it, have it with Angostura!
