Today is National Cabernet Sauvignon Day! With so many cabernets out there, it can be hard to choose what to drink tonight to celebrate. To save you the trouble, I chose a fun Cabernet Sauvignon from Mendoza, Argentina!

Achaval Ferrer started in 1998 when a group of Italian and Argentine friends joined forces to make an enthusiastic dream come true. The dream: to bring Argentine wine to the top of the world. The winery has unique conditions when it comes to soil, climate, and irrigation. This winery I have been a fan of for a while now, and have enjoyed several vintages of theirs.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon originated from small patches of vineyards located in Mendoza. This wine requires very little production and flaunts a juicy texture filled with black and red fruit-forward notes. It is a perfect representation of its variety, and Cabernet from Mendoza, especially this one,  delivers a bold message where the fruit overcomes the mineral differences. It is an expression of inspiration and spirit resulting from its youthfulness. Its color is Red-ruby with Plum and tobacco on the nose that follows through to the palate. The finish is subtle and persistent, with refined tannins. $25

To pair this wine, you will want to enjoy some grilled meats and vegetables. The fruit notes in the wine will pair nicely with the smokiness and char from the grill, while the tannins and structure can certainly hold up to the nice marbled fat in the meat (if you’re having red meat that is).

However, you decide to enjoy National Cabernet Sauvignon Day, do it well. Eat what you like and drink what you love! Pair responsibly.
