In Vino Restaurant East Village

 In Vino Restaurant located in the East Village is a hot spot for great decor, an intimate setting, and some fun wine activities! Here you can enjoy Babbo Alum Chef James Kelly, Tuesday Tastings, and a revamped menu.

Chef James Kelly’s new IMG_9264menu is out and it pairs great with some Tuscan wines. I started off with the Mixed Beet Bruschetta which is earthy and bright. Mushroom and White Bean Bruschetta also accompanied the colorful beet bites. Polpette al Nonna Beef Meatballs in Tomato Ragu also came to the table, which was a great pairing with a 2011 Sicilian Zibibbo.

IMG_9277Pasta was up next and to my surprise chef’s choices seemed a little warm and wintery, but it was just perfect due to the cozy Tuscan wine cellar feeling of the restaurant. The Anatra Ragu Italian Duck Sausage Ragu with Cavatelli and Rapini was smokey, meaty, and perfectly paired with the 2010 Etna Rosso DOC . The Ravioli di Zucca: Sweet Pumpkin Ravioli with Sage Butter and Ricotta Salata also paired extremely well.

IMG_9280For the third course chef brought out two amazing sides with our choice of entrees. I chose the Stuffed Jamison Farm leg of Lamb with Mushrooms and creamy Polenta. Alongside was Risotto Sporco with Chicken Pate, Pancetta, and Parmesan, as well as Brussels Sprouts with Chestnuts. The lamb fell off the bone with just one touch; it was absolutely perfect. The polenta, creamy and just right when scooped up with the savory mushrooms. The brussels complimented all the choices very well, as did the risotto, especially when paired with a 2011 Barbera d’ Alba DOC “Castella”. 

Other options for an entree, which came highly recomended by others at the table who ordered:

– Branzino with Puntarella Ragu, Salumi, Roasted Peppers, and Bagna Canda

– Quaglic Grilled Marinated Quail with Charred Brussels and Vin Cotto

This month’s menu: Beef Carpaccio, Lasagna, and Tiramisu.
