Summer is the perfect time to light up and enjoy a good cigar, don’t you think? I first fell in love with cigars due to the aromas, and it wasn’t until I tried my first one with my father when I was over 18 years old. What I enjoy about cigars is that they are not addicting, and in fact more of a social activity thats relaxing and exciting. I find I always meet and smoke with the most interesting people when enjoying a good cigar, and there is a cigar for you within your budget, that I promise! Gurkha Cigars are some of the industry’s finest and only the rarest and best tobaccos go into each and every cigar.
Want to know which ones to buy? You’re in luck because here are my top five Gurkha Cigars to smoke this summer:
Using a carefully chosen blend of selected tobaccos, the the medium bodied 125th Anniversary blend features an oily Cubra, Brazilian Habano wrapper, accompanied by an Ecuadorian, Habano binder and a complex combination of Nicaraguan, Brazilian and Dominican fillers for a smooth and complex taste profile.
The vintage Cellar Reserve uses the finest quality 15-year-old aged tobacco, comprised of an oily Criollo 1998 wrapper that combines an aged Dominican, olor binder with a 15-year old Dominican Filler for a medium to full bodied cigar.
The Cellar Reserve Edicion Especial goes above and beyond in perfecting the Cellar Reserve blend with a Corojo wrapper and 18-year aged tobacco. This cigar is medium body and full of flavor and comes packaged in a beautiful piano finish, mahogany box. “I partnered with our blenders to search for the rarest tobaccos we could find and stumbled upon this 18-year old Corojo wrapper and blend. There was only enough to make 100 boxes of each size initially, and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome. In fact, at this very moment we are searching for another rare blend for next year,” – Kaizad Hansotia.
The Heritage has a Rosado Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, Nicaraguan binder and Dominican, Pennsylvanian, and Nicaraguan fillers. This is the one you have seen me smoking on Instagram and Facebook many times and it’s one of my favorites! It is a medium bodied cigar full of robust flavors and is hand rolled in Nicaragua. These cigars comes in a rare 35-count box, and is blended by the blending team at American Caribbean Cigars in Nicaragua, with the input of our in-house blender and National Sales Director, Juan Lopez, and the blessings of Kaizad Hansotia. The flavorful blend has rich coffee and dark chocolate tones with a subtle and well-balanced spice present throughout.
The flagship cigar of Gurkha. The bestselling cognac-infused cigar in the industry. A silky 5-year Connecticut wrapper with an aged 3-year binder and filler, packaged in a gorgeous glass tube. This one is a budget friendly cigar with special flavors and aromas, and definitely worth buying!
Now that you know what to smoke, here’s what to pair with it. I always enjoy a nice brown spirit when smoking and usually have a neat pour of George Dickel No. 12, Bowmore 12, and for when you’re feeling a something a little sweeter, Crown Royal Maple!
New to cigars? No problem, this summer Somm In The City will be hosting some Cigar 101 events and classes around NYC and readers are invited. Keep an eye out on social media for the invites, times, and dates so we can smoke, learn, and enjoy a great cigar together!
