Cigar and French Whisky Pairings!

img_8859Have you ever thought to pair cigars and whisky? Recently Somm In The City hosted an event with Brenne Whisky and Davidoff Downtown at Brookfield Place for an exclusive ladies only cigar sip and smoke night!

The goal of the event was to encourage women to embrace smoking cigars and understand that they pair beautifully with spirits. We smoked the Davidoff Grand Cru Robusto $21, which was smooth, bold, and spice driven. Some wood, cocoa, and chili on the palate make this cigar a great gift for the holiday season at an approachable price. Brenne Whisky $65 is a French Single Malt produced in the Cognac region and is a project of Allison Patel’s.

“While exploring the world whisky scene for something that was focused on “terroir” (being ‘of the earth’), Allison encountered a third generation Cognac producer who had started distilling a unique Single Malt at his farm distillery in the heart of Cognac, France.  At that time, a majority of the oldest whisky was around three to four years old in new French Limousin oak barrels.  Upon tasting it, Allison immediately knew it was something special.  She and the distiller collaborated over a span of almost four years to refine the aging spirit and continue laying down more barrels as each year’s crop of barley was ready to be harvested.  A breakthrough occurred when Allison decided to incorporate his previously used Cognac casks in the whisky aging process.  This stimulated the whisky in a beautiful way; ultimately creating a new profile within the Single Malt category that became Brenne Whisky.”- DrinkBrenne.com

img_8863I had quite a few readers at the event who weren’t “whisky lovers” to say the least, but I assured them that upon the first sip of Brenne followed by smoking the Robusto, they would be sold. Guess what? They were! Brenne is fruit forward, caramel driven, and absolutely divine, which is why it pairs so beautifully with the smooth and bold grand cru cigar. If you’re seeking something to smoke and sip this holiday season, or to give as a luxury gift, I highly recommend Davidoff Grand Cru Robusto paired with a bottle of Brenne Whisky!

Please pair responsibly…
