I had the pleasure to taste Château Minuty Rosé recently with François Matton, one of the current owners of Château Minuty. The winery is located in Côtes de Provence, which is a famous region in France, where some of the best rosés in the world are produced.
Château Minuty was founded by the Matton-Farnet family, who has been in the wine industry for three centuries. The winery is now run by Jean-Etienne and François Matton who continue to improve the brand and give it an international direction. The two have replaced the Carignan and Ugni Blanc grapes with Grenache and Rolle, which produce beautiful rosés.
I had the opportunity to taste the wines at Gotham Bar and Grill, NYC where we paired the 2016 M De Minuty Rosé, 2016 Minuty Rosé Et Or, and the 2016 Minuty 281 Rosé with outstanding dishes. We started with the 2016 M rosé, paired with Red Shrimp Ceviche. The M rosé matches beautifully with seafood. The ceviche was made with compressed pineapple, cucumber, radish, red onion, and passion fruit smoked chili citrus emulsion, which brought out ripe strawberry and stone fruit notes in the wine.
After a refreshing first course, came a warm and comforting Spring Risotto with asparagus, english peas, cremini mushrooms, pea tendrils, pancetta, and parmesan. Paired was the 2016 Minuty Et Or, which complimented the risotto very well. The wine expresses intense aromas of citrus and white flowers, with an elegant white peach finish that worked very well with the pancetta, mushrooms, and creamy parmesan risotto.
For the third course we enjoyed a Grilled Branzino with confit cherry tomato, black olive, smoked eggplant, and salsa verde. The branzino was cooked to perfection, and the smokey yet spicy flavors in the dish paired wonderfully with the 2016 Minuty 281. The 281 is unique, refreshing, and has notes of white flowers, peach, melon and hints of iodine. On the palate it has a lot of depth and finesse and matches well with seafood and smokey flavors.
For those of you looking for great rosés ranging from $15.00- 23.00 and up, Minuty is a good go to. You can sip these wines all summer long, and enjoy them with picnics, at bbq’s, and on boats!
Always remember, eat what you like and drink what you love. Please pair responsibly!
