Cedar Ridge Winery and Distillery is located right in the Corn Belt in Swisher, Iowa. I had the pleasure recently of tasting some of their whiskey’s and fell head over heels for these craft brown spirits. Cedar Ridge as you will notice in the first line of this blog post, is also a winery. For those of you scratching your heads, yes, Iowa grows grapes and does make wine (like many other states). The soils in the Midwest are fertile, and Cedar Ridge puts a lot of care and craftsmanship into their wines and spirits.
In this post, I am going to talk about the spirits however, because the whiskey’s make a great gift for Father’s Day as well as pair well with cigars. Cedar Ridge offers a line of Iowa Bourbon Whiskey, Reserve Bourbon Whiskey, Silver Label Single Malt Whiskey, Malted Rye Whiskey, Wheat Whiskey, and a Single Malt Whiskey. I had the pleasure of tasting the Iowa Bourbon Whiskey, which is 75% corn and distilled to a high proof. This whiskey is a great sipping spirit that’s easily enjoyed neat. I also tasted the Wheat Whiskey, which is made from 100% winter wheat and is flavorful, soft, and perfect for cocktails.
