Black Barn Cafe and Bar in Chelsea!

Whenever I am in Chelsea I like to visit Black Barn Cafe and Bar! This well-known restaurant is in the same building as the Chelsea Market, with an entrance street side for easier access. Chef John Doherty and his team bring great farm to table cuisine to Chelsea, equipped with a retail store where you can purchase American made, handcrafted products for your home and kitchen.

I had the pleasure of dining here to taste some of the winter favorites a few weeks ago and was blown away! The service is outstanding at the Chelsea location, which in this crowded area, is a major plus. I started off with a glass of Rioja, which was bold and delicious, with nice complexity and fruit. This wine easily paired well with the Tuna Tartare with Housemade Chips as well as the Roasted Cauliflower. Here at the Cafe, they have a lot of vegan and vegetarian options to choose from, which makes this spot great for all group types, work outings, events, and more. I especially love the Tuna Tartare here, because it’s pair-ability with the craft cocktail menu, as well as the wines by the glass (including my Rioja).

When I visited here it was a very cold and rainy evening, so some comfort food was in order! We started with thePan Roasted Artichoke Hearts which come topped with hen of the wood mushrooms, eggplant hummus, and tahini-lemon dressing. The Foraged Mushroom Mac & Cheese is one of the most delicious I have ever had. This dish is perfectly cheesy, served in a skillet, crispy in all the right places, and an absolute must order! For the meat lovers, I recommend the Slow Braised Short Ribs with haricot vert, creamy mashed potatoes. It’s really such a warm and comforting dish that easily can be shared and enjoyed.

When you come here, I highly suggest saving room for dessert because the Rum Butterscotch Bread Pudding is out of this world. Whether you enjoy sweets or not, this dessert will satisfy all your sweet, savory, and salty cravings in one bite!
