Bar Prima is a quaint little wine bar serving unique wines that will take your palate on a wonderful journey.
The happy hour on Monday’s is all service long, serving wines for $7.00/glass. During my visit, I was brought on an Italian wine journey, where I explored and tasted through many popular wines on the list. The 2013 Terenzuola Vermentino is crisp and refreshing; perfect as a fall white wine. For sparking fans, or cider lovers, you must try the Menti Vino Frizzante Naturale. This Biodynamic wine will be at Bar Prima until mid October, so be sure to try this wine while you can!
Some of my favorite reds, that I recommend to try at this wine spot are the 2012 Lo Triolet Gamay, an organic wine that’s well balanced and has striking red fruit notes, medium body, and a long finish. The 2010 San Domenico Aglianico as well as the Villa I Cipressa Rosso di Montalcino are wonderful reds, with bigger bodies and aromas… these wines should be enjoyed with some of Bar Prima’s bar bites.
For the size of the space, I must say what impressed me the most (besides the wonderful wine selection) was the food here. With no “back kitchen”, this bar produces some fantastic bruschetta and charcuterie. The Mushroom Bruschetta over fresh baked bread is outstanding, while the Apple and Walnut one is perfect for fall. Prosciutto, fresh Mustard, and Olives are also available here and are a must try with the wines. If you’re confused or overwhelmed, do not worry because the knowledgeable and friendly staff will surely help you and your palate navigate some perfect pairings.
Check out the best wine bar on the Upper East Side, this cozy little spot is just what you need after a long day at work, or on a weekend.
